Water Baptism

What is Baptism?

Water Baptism is an important step of obedience that shows others we have personally trusted Jesus for our salvation. Christians are baptised in water by fully submerged in water to identify with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Water Baptism is the public declaration of your faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

Why Should Christians be Baptised?

Jesus was baptised in water, even though He did not sin, to show its importance for all who believe in Him. We are baptised in water to follow His example.

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:16-17 NIV)

It is an act of obedience.

“Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’” —Matthew 28:18–20

It has demonstrated the change that has taken place in you.

That, by the way, is what baptism pictures for us: In baptism we show that we have been saved from death and doom by the resurrection of Christ; not because our bodies are washed clean by the water but because in being baptised we are turning to God and asking him to cleanse our hearts from sin. (1 Peter 3:21 TLB)

It is a powerful public declaration of the personal commitment you made to trust Jesus for your salvation and to follow Him.

“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. (Matthew 10:32-33)

I have already been baptized. Should I be baptised again?

Your baptism should have signified you becoming a follower of Jesus, beginning a changed life, and uniting with a new family. If your baptism did not reflect this change of life, then you should be baptised again.
